Located in the foothills of New York's beautiful Adirondack Mountains, Capital Leather is part of a 200-year history of leather processing and manufacturing in the region. It's said that, from 1880 to 1950, the "Glove Cities" of Johnstown and Gloversville produced 90% of the gloves sold in the United States, and Gloversville was dubbed the Glove Capital of the World. While the industry slowed significantly as glove wearing became less popular and tanneries were required to comply with new environmental regulations, the tradition of leather work in Fulton County, NY continues today with every aspect of leather production available and generations of skill and knowledge reflected in the work.
